UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 20 mm, 3.42 g, 1 h), ‘Early Group’. Imitating Commodus, 180-192. M COMMOD-VS ANTONINVS Laureate head of Commodus to right. Rev. P M TR P [...] COS II PROS IIIX Emperor standing right, holding transverse spear in his right hand and globe in his left. Suspension loop broken off, otherwise, fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection, Leu 7, 25 October 2020, 1859.

The combination of two unrelated types is quite common among the Aurum Barbarorum: here we have an obverse of Commodus with a neat portrait and sensible legend mixed with a reverse that likely derives from an aureus of Gordian III (Calicó 3222 ff.).
